Cyclists and musicians especially welcome

Fleur de Sel sits at the heart of coastal woodland at the mouth of the famous Loire River. It is well known for its garden which has won several local awards for its excellence. It is also very convenient for cyclists, being directly on several national and international cycle trails - Eurovelo 1 and 6 as well as the Loire à Vélo, Vélodyssée & Accueil à Vélo network. It's a place where the creative arts rub shoulders with music. It is also :
-
I minute's walk from the beach
-
10 minutes in the car from Saint-Nazaire
-
15 minutes in the car from Pornic
-
20 minutes in the car from La Baule
Settle in comfortably into our beautiful Fleur de Sel suite before going for a walk down the road in Saint-Brévin's town centre or a wander across the dunes and pine trees just behind the sea shore. If you have arrived in time, you can take a walk along the wide sand beaches or breathe in the scent of the flowering mimosas...
The Fleur de Sel Suite

The Fleur de Sel room is a suite for two people of 30 m2, facing south facing the sea. It includes a bathroom with private WC. The decoration is neat and refined with exposed beams and a large bed. A library is at your disposal in the room as well as a courtesy tray (tea, infusion). Free Wi-Fi access. Plus, now, an English language edition of the Seven Crystal Balls where Tintin chases his prey to Saint Nazaire (where he promptly loses them....) !

At Fleur de Sel, you will be able to read the adventures of Tintin who speaks fluent English ! ... You may also read the original French version of the Album "The Seven Crystal Balls", but there is also a German language version for Tim (as he's known there). It may interest you to know that, although the German version maintains the name of Saint Nazaire (which, although it has changed since WW2 due to the bombing of the harbour and the city, has retained some interesting details...) the English language version calls the city Westermouth, possibly in reference (as the excellent article in Wikipedia points out) to the English seaport of Weymouth. Our theory is that it is simply an interesting topographical invention since Saint Nazaire sits on the banks of the Loire Estuary, the very "west mouth" of a river to the sea !

And if you're tired or just want to relax with a book, our starfish tea set is the perfect companion. The herbal and tea bags were shy which is why they're not in the photo.

Breakfast

Breakfast at Fleur de Sel is a special occasion to be savoured before you get back on your bikes (or your feet) for a busy day. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate (or another drink if we have it) is served with fresh bread, croissant, cake or homemade brioche, yoghurt and jams (including the famous English "Fleur de Sel" marmalade made with kumkwats from the garden). You can also have fruit juice and cereals.
Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (exceptionally earlier, on request)
The arts and music etc...

Fleur de Sel is a place where music rubs shoulders with the creative arts under the aegis of Brigitte Casagranda, author of more than 40 "how to" books on creative activities. She is also a decorator with several prestigious clients to her credit.
It also has two pianos (an upright Yamaha and a fine Erard grand from the 1930s). Chamber music rehearsals or for small ensembles are possible on request as well as a lessons, artistic advice or accompaniment.

Your hosts, Brigitte and Peter

The garden

The garden is a real passion for Brigitte Casagranda who regularly receives prizes for its exceptional qualities.
Cyclists
At Fleur de Sel, we know what it's like to start out on a journey whose beginning you know but not its end - and the importance of finding, when you get there, a warm welcome in a well-kept setting where peace and comfort are the order of the day.
This is precisely what we offer you for your overnight stay in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, since the principal cycle paths, including the Loire à Vélo and Vélodyssée (as you can see from the illustration), pass right by our door.
Our house is located directly on the GR8 trail and is one of the starting points for Eurovélo 1, which leads to Compostela (Camino Inglès).
Saint-Brevin-les-Pins is also the starting point for Eurovélo 6, which will take you to Constanta in Romania on the shores of the Black Sea.
We look forward to hearing from you !
And if you're a musician, don't hesitate to say so.

Bikes and the Bridge

The Saint-Nazaire Bridge (just a kilometre away from Fleur de Sel) spans the Loire estuary and stretches for approximately 4 km, offering travellers a spectacular view of the Loire. It is the unavoidable link between the north and south banks of the Loire and is equipped with a cycle path that allows intrepid cyclists to cross from one bank to the other. The only other option is to cross with the Bac au Pellerin, 47 km to the east.
It is important to note, however, that the cycle path is very narrow and is not really suitable for cyclists, given current safety standards. Given the traffic and wind conditions, travel can be difficult. Cyclists should therefore exercise caution and are strongly discouraged for children. Overtaking heavy goods vehicles can lead you into the path of cars behind them, which do not always have time to avoid a collision. We have taken a photo of the cycle track in order to dispel any illusions (before you get there !) about how much space you have. Remember also that winds and tailwinds can be very treacherous.
To meet these needs during the summer season, a shuttle service is offered by the community of communes in both directions. For more information, visit https://www.pornichet.fr/traversee-du-pont-de-saint-nazaire.
For the other months of the year, bus 317 (Aléop) provides the connection. Alternatively, to cross by taxi with your bicycle (and trailer): Saint-Brevin Taxis (7 days a week) +33 2 40 27 23 07

A truly blissful moment at Fleur de Sel, where Brigitte and Peter welcomed us into their cozy, British-style home in Saint-Brevin with all their kindness.
The sound of the piano, the tranquility, and the lively exchanges with the hosts will delight you.
I highly recommend this oceanfront, bike-friendly cottage.

What a pleasure to arrive in this superb house so beautifully decorated after a tiring day spent on the bike and to be welcomed so warmly by our hosts, Brigitte and Peter, so kind and attentive!
We will keep an excellent memory of our stop in this charming place, of the friendly and interesting exchanges with passionate artists, who do not hesitate to give their time to share their passion.
We will not fail to take advantage of their good advice, particularly concerning learning the piano, and to recommend their guest room to those around us !

The location is ideal for cyclists on the Velodyssée like us.
Four adults and a 15-month-old child stayed at this guesthouse.
We arrived very late, but our hosts were kind enough to wait for us.
We were greeted with great attention and kindness. They even found us a great place to get takeaway pizzas for dinner.
What can I say about the breakfast? It was absolutely extraordinary!
It was also a pleasure to chat with Brigitte and Peter during our short stay.
In short, we highly recommend this guesthouse.

We had just endured a difficult day of train travel with our bikes on our way to the Vélodyssée.
Our first stop was at Brigitte and Peter's. The welcome was the best of our entire trip.
Everything was perfect!
The high-quality, very comfortable room was exactly what we needed.
I've stayed in many B&Bs, but Brigitte and Peter's will remain the best.
And I'm not even talking about the breakfast, the aperitifs, or even Peter at the piano.
Things to see and do

There is something for all tastes and all ages in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins. The sea, boats, light, wind, nature, fauna and flora, seafood and sports (ULM, sailing, sand yachting , horse riding, surfing) ... without forgetting the dunes, the blockhouses for history buffs, the shells and the cycle paths...:

If you are lucky, you can witness the departure of large cruise ships like this one, on November 5, 2021, Wonder of the Sea, reputed to be the largest ship in the world.

For children of all ages, there is always entertainment, whether it's the Blue Whale or the shipyards with their cranes and the evocation of Tintin and Captain Haddock...
